Pages: 320 Release Date: 12th July Publisher: Simon Pulse

Disclaimer: Received from S&S Galley Grab. I did not receive any money for this review.

Goodreads synopsis:

On the last day of her junior year, Hannah's boyfriend Sebastian dumped her. Facing a summer of loneliness, Hannah turns to her best friend Ava for comfort. Ava does what BFFs do: she stays by Hannah's side...until it's time for Ava to head up to Maine for the summer. Also left behind is Ava's boyfriend, Noah, who's such a great guy he gets Hannah a job at the diner he waits tables at. Slowly, Hannah comes out of her funk thanks to Noah's good conversation and their fun times at the diner. But things get complicated when their friendship turns into attraction--and one night, into a passionate kiss.

The novel opens on the first day of senior year; the day Hannah is going to see Ava, Sebastian, and Noah all in one place. Over the course of the day secrets and betrayals are revealed, and alliances are broken and reformed. In the end, everyone is paired up once again, but not the way you might think...

My Review:

4 stars/5 stars.

Good realistic YA novel. I really enjoyed Sometimes It Happens, I enjoyed the way the plot was split in each chapter between The Summer and school. Lauren's writing flowed and it easily kept me turning(-well, clicking) the pages. Finished it within the day!

The topic of this novel is basically cheating, but all the emotions, consequences and problems that goes with it. I don't condone cheating but it was definitely interesting to read from this viewpoint.

The main characters were easy to relate to and believable. Hannah is the main protagonist who is seventeen years old, with Ava being her best friend who is going out with Noah, and Lacey (Hannah's best friend).

It was an enjoyable light read, which did make me gasp in bits, however it was a bit predictable at times. 'Best friend goes away on holiday, her boyfriend tries to console Hannah, surprise surprise what happens?' Although I would definitely recommend Sometimes It Happens to everyone!

Overall, a good YA read that I enjoyed!

  1. does a really good job of giving back story but keeping it easy to understand what point in time that particular chapter is.

The only thing that bothered me slightly in this story is what the MC does with the male "lead". I expected something from the description but I didn't expect it to be what had actually happened. I kind of found it hard to believe that the main character would do that particular thing. She didn't seem like the type.
